The last work cession of year 2015 took place on December Saturday the 18 th and Sunday the 19th. Many of our faithful workers were present around the Pacific 231 E 41.
There were still a lot of things to do inside the fire box and mainly regarding recalcitrant smoke tubes that are sometimes difficult to unfit from the sheet metal which separate fire box from the boiler.
A study has been started by our specialists in order to unfit from the top of the boiler, the bolts which maintain the vapor dome in place. Those bolts were primarily found with a lot of corrosion, and have been cut off during first disassembly. This operation seems to be very tricky as:
1/ Bolt are probably present since the very beginning of the built of the machine.
2/ they are located on the top of the boiler which is not an easy /safe place to be.
We also start to clean- up inside the tender ‘Bowell. Several wheel-barrows were hardly needed to throw away rust and detritus from inside.
Unfortunately, time and rust have achieved their destruction, mainly on the lower right corner were the sheet metal has been found peel off.
Identification plates haves been unfitted from the sides of the tender and keep in a safe place.
Work was so hard, but we have been hopefully helped by an impromptu visit.
Some meal and wine was brought up (using a bike) to us by a kind people).coming from Santa Claus distillery not so far from us on Xmas market, boulevard Heurteloup in TOURS city.
To be noted: 2 new adherent join the association.
A Local radio talks about our restoration action on the locomotive
A local classroom of school « Stalingrad » from SAINT PIERRE DES CORPS visited us.
In conclusion, no more work cession for the next 2 weeks (not before 2016, January the 8 - 9 et 10 Were will start 3 days cessions
In the name of all the members of the association bureau I wish you a merry Xmas and a happy new year.
See you next year.
